Investment Review: Scout Space Systems

This post is part of my angel investing series where I review investments after they’re completed. These posts are not investment advice, solicitations, or offers of any kind. They are simply my thoughts on companies I’ve invested in and how they fit into my thesis.

For background on my approach to angel investing and my investment thesis, see my introduction to this series.

Company Overview

Scout Space Systems is building a plug and play sattelite data collection platform. As more and more things get launched, there are more and more things to avoid, and the scout systems platform helps spacecraft autonomosly avoid collisions.

Thesis Fit

Macro trends:

  • Space is getting increasingly crowded with satellites
  • Launch costs continue to decrease
  • Growing need for space asset management and monitoring
  • Increasing concern about space debris and collision risks

Founder fit:

  • Deep aerospace engineering background
  • Previous experience at major space companies
  • Strong understanding of both technical and regulatory challenges
  • Clear vision for the future of space operations

Conclusion

This investment fits perfectly with my thesis around the increasing commercialization of space and the opportunities created by lower launch costs. As more satellites go into orbit, the need for inspection and monitoring becomes critical. Scout’s approach to this problem could become essential infrastructure for the growing space economy.
