Trail Report: Coldwater Mountain

Coldwater Mountain has earned its reputation as one of the Southeast’s premier mountain biking destinations. With over 40 miles of purpose-built trails ranging from flowing beginner routes to technical expert-only lines, this IMBA Ride Center offers something for every rider.

My Take

I haven’t ridden all of the trails they have there, but it’s only because I’m old and slow, not because they aren’t magnificent. The trails are mostly “backcountry” feeling, which is my favorite. There are some flow trails and some pretty hair-raising downhills also, but you’re in for a lot of pedaling. It’s positioned on a huge ridge, with trails climbing up it and cruising along the top.

In the winter or fall you get pretty stellar views from the top of the ridge (and beat the heat). For sure I would recommend taking a day and doing as much of this as your legs will allow.

Coldwater Mountain continues to expand with new trails and features being added regularly. The local community’s dedication to trail maintenance and development ensures this system will remain a cornerstone of Southeastern mountain biking for years to come.
