Evergreen 1.7 Lets the Phone Do the Work

When I put Evergreen on the iPhone back in June, I was upfront that the phone was mostly for capture and lookup. Add the person you just met, glance at who you owe a follow-up, then wait until you’re back at your Mac to actually do anything about it. That was the honest scope of version 1.6.

Version 1.7 closes that gap. The phone is a real client now. If you want to skip straight to it, Evergreen is here on the App Store for Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

What You Can Do From Your Pocket

Create a contact. Log an interaction, and fix or delete it when you get the details wrong, which for me is often. Add a follow-up, edit it, check it off, or delete it once you’ve decided you’re never actually going to do it.

That last one sounds like a joke and isn’t. Half the value of a follow-up list is being able to clear things off it honestly.

Reconnect is on the phone too. It’s the view that quietly tells you who you haven’t talked to in a while, and now you can act on it from the couch instead of making a mental note you’ll definitely forget. If someone comes up and you’re not ready to deal with them yet, you can snooze them and Evergreen will bring them back later.

None of this is glamorous. It’s the unglamorous half of an app, the part where every screen that shows you something also lets you change it. But it’s the difference between a CRM you consult and a CRM you use.

Things That Were Quietly Broken

A few fixes that sound small and weren’t:

• If you had the same person saved twice, once with a country code on their phone number and once without, Evergreen used to confidently insist they were two different people. It knows better now.
• The “last contacted” date stayed accurate when you edited or deleted an old interaction. It used to drift as soon as you started correcting your own history, which is exactly when you want it to be right.
• Backups now include everything, not most things.
• If a save fails on your phone, the app tells you. It used to just quietly drop it. This is the one that would have cost somebody real data eventually, and I’m glad it was me who found it.

What’s Next

The split I described in June still holds. The phone is for capture and quick edits, the Mac is where the heavier lifting happens. What changed is that the phone half is no longer a read-only window with a couple of exceptions bolted on.
